Recently we began having problems remote controlling some workstations using the Chrome Remote Desktop tool. While the service worked fine on our Android devices, any machine running Windows was unable to connect to the destination device, regardless of OS.
It turns out, that after a recent plugin update, an additional step may be required to get the app to work. You will notice, now, that when the connecting box comes up, the window suddenly has a scrollbar. Simply scroll down and click the box that says enable CRD. Once you have done that, all should be well.
The problem now, of course, is how to prevent this from happening. Several reports have been filed with Google about this, so hopefully they are working on fixing this in the next update. If you are interested in following this bug, or to learn more about it, check out the Google Product Forums.
UPDATE: If you go to chrome://plugins, there is an “Always Activate” check box for the Chrome Remote Desktop Viewer. Checking this box should resolve any issues with connecting to remote systems using Chrome Remote Desktop.
